Ideas and Impact
The Friends of Diamond Lake WA Foundation is continually trying to find ways to keep our lake clean and healthy. Here is a brief overview of our current initiatives.
-
Boat Launch Inspection Site
We are working to keep new aquatic invasive species like quagga mussels out of our lake. Our best method to keep our lake clean is to check boats for invasive species before they are launched. Your support pays the boat inspectors who check and clean boats and help educate our community so our lake will continue to sparkle!
-
Reducing Aquatic Invasive Species
The FDLWF contracts with experts who perform annual herbicide treatments to reduce the amount of existing invasive species in Diamond Lake. This program is vital to the health of our lake. Without yearly herbicide treatment, invasive species – especially Reed Canary Grass, Yellow Flag Iris, and Milfoil multiply rapidly. Left untreated, these species would cause significant ecological damage to our lake and would be much more costly to mitigate down the line.
-
Fishing on Diamond Lake
The FDLWF works with the WA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife to maintain a fish pen, which is housed at Finch Waterfront in Boy Scout Bay. Each fall approximately 15,000 rainbow triploid trout placed in the fish pen for release in the spring. These trout are necessary to keep the lake’s ecosystem balanced while still being a great place to fish! Thank you to Barbara Cruz and all fish feeders for taking care of the fish throughout the winter!
-
Road Clean Up
Every year the FDLWF holds a road pick up to keep our community clean. It is a great way to meet your neighbors, complete your morning walk with an added purpose, or spend some time outside with your family!
